Estonian Government postpones biofuel mandate

30/03/2017

The Estonian government has decided to postpone its planned introduction of a biofuel mandate in 2017 to May 2018, after consulting a number of stakeholders. The 2020 target of a 10% market share for renewable fuels in transport remains in place. The planned mandate will introduce a 3.1-3.3% biofuel mandate rising to 6.4% from April 2019.

The news is of concern because recently published data from Eurostat show that Estonia is the worst-performing country in terms of progress made towards achieving the EU Renewable Energy Directive's 10% target for renewable energy sources in transport by 2020.
